Cannabitch is an award-winning newsletter covering cannabis culture by journalist Jackie Bryant (who by day is the content strategst at San Diego Magazine). Cannabitch was formerly a weekly column at the now-defunct alt-weekly San Diego CityBeat.
Cannabitch won honorable mention in the “Best Solo Newsletter” category at the 2022 NYU School of Journalism American Journalism Online Awards. Judge Lyz Lenz called it a “wildly entertaining newsletter that is deeply revealing about American biases and vices” that “illuminates the world of weed, and in the process, the world around us.”
Cannabitch also won the “best blog” distinction at the San Diego Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists journalism contest in 2021 and 2022 and the essay “California’s Weed Country is Lit” was selected by Padma Lakshmi for inclusion in the 2021 Best American Travel Writing anthology, published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Jackie was named 2024 “Journalist of the Year” by the San Diego Writers Festival, the 2023 “Cannabis Lifestyle Reporter of the Year” by Benzinga, and was also named to Leaf Magazines 2023 “Impact List” designating the most impactful personalities in cannabis culture and industry.
